My name is Alison Laverty. I am the outcast… the dreamer… the main character in my memoir. It is a story about finding resilience in an ever changing world.
Meant to be is the working title of my memoir which I am currently querying literary agents to help me traditionally publish my memoir.
The Outcast
From the age of four, I watched my father’s violent rage against my mother destroy our family. To keep my sanity, I recorded every argument, every spoken word in my journals. I strongly felt no one cared if we lived or died.
My parents marriage was saved through mediation but think about it, would you want to live with someone who could turn violent anytime and kill you?
No one knew how scared we were because no one bothered to ask how we were coping. When I turned seventeen, my father kicked me out.
What we perceive as endings are actually beginnings …
As a child I was a quiet and mischievous young girl. The daydreamer in me created a whole inner world where I could achieve anything and everything through sheer imagination.
The Dreamer
As I grew older, music… music… music… from the 80s and their videos ruled my world. I have a remarkable memory for songs I like and their lyrics. Music helped me cope with my suicidal thoughts.
As a teen, I aspired to become a rock singer like Belinda Carlisle from the Go Gos.
I love movies… futuristic, action, thrillers and zombie apocalypse were among my favorites. Anything that hints survival and triumph of the human spirit.
But among the people around me I felt like a failure, a big disappointment. And people were never shy to expect the worse from me.
I knew I could never fit into what society deemed as normal. I was definitely different. So I became the outcast who was either not smart enough or good enough.
The bad genes of the family from a broken home because of my parents’ failed marriage. A big embarrassment. When I had nothing to fall back on, my mother taught me to cling onto my faith. In a way, that was all I’d ever known in my life.
I believe we are all connected to something bigger. My faith runs deeper. Being an outcast, a dreamer have opened my eyes to insights others don’t see. I’m extremely creative, a quiet achiever.
I love bushwalking in the rainforest, sewing and cooking. Everything I ever needed to survive, was presented to me in the form of a message or a sign by a stranger, a taxi driver. To help me move forward and I achieved the impossible.
Songs and movies would grab my attention as an assurance that I was not alone. But it was my inner guide who held me and led me forward.
The Main Character in a Story of Triumph
As you walk into my story, watch me find courage as I take a leap of faith to follow my dreams, achieving the impossible. I am stronger today because of my past.
You will feel my sadness as well as an energy guiding me into an unknown future. To live in harmony with the universe or a higher power, you must possess great unshakable faith to believe in your destiny. Because what is meant to be will always find its way.
And when you make that connection, you tap into a kind of magic, only you can feel and discover the abundance you seek is already yours.
Are you ready?
Come into my world… experience my adventures.
