Alison Laverty is a Singapore born Eurasian of Portuguese descent. At the age of sixteen, Alison started her first job as a bank cashier working her way up to corporate marketing. During this time, while working she studied part time as a matured student, and travelled while completing her degree.

While English is her first language, she speaks fluently in a Creole Portuguese language known as Kristang, Bahasa Melayu and basic conversational Mandarin. Alison lives in Brisbane, the Sunshine State of Queensland in Australia with her husband, two children, her Mother and their cat.

Alison’s keen interest in Behavior Science prompted her to study Psychology in University. As a teen, she aspired to be a rock singer, like Belinda Carlisle of The Go-Go’s. Close friends describes Alison as quirky and someone with a remarkable memory for songs and lyrics especially music from the 80s.

A lover of movies—futuristic, action, thrillers and zombie apocalypse are among her favorites. In her free time, she loves bush walking with her family in the rain-forests, sewing, cooking and takes care of her elderly Mother.

Her essay Imagination and the Curious Mind was awarded Honorable Mention in the Memoirs/Personal Essay category of the 90th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition 2021.
